The Selah City Council will revisit a May 13 vote to deny a Planning Commission recommendation. The council had voted 3-1 to deny a South Selah Neighborhood Association request to amend the city’s comprehensive plan.
The SSNA had previously requested that three parcels on Southern Avenue, two of which are owned by Torkelson Construction Company, be rezoned single-family residential and redesignated low-density residential, from the present R-3, high density designation. The Planning Commission recommended denial of the request.
Tuesday, councilmember Denise Nichols, who had made the original motion to deny the commissioners’ recommendation, said it had become apparent to her that the council had received a lot of information and that it was unclear whether some of the information was personal opinion or actual fact.
“I would like staff to analyze the records and report back to us whether (the information) was fact or fiction,”
Nichols said.
Nichols motion was unanimously approved. Council members Keith Larson, Summer Derrey, and Herb Schmidt voted yes. Council members Paul Overby and John Tierney recused themselves as they did May 13.
