They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but maybe Reno should consider the same slogan after the Pepsi Pak squashed them in Legion Baseball play over the weekend.

Though there likely wasn’t any gambling involved, all odds pointed to Yakima Valley having a solid performance, based on their already strong start to the summer tournament season.

A long road trip didn’t hinder their efforts, and this was evident in the 21-1 rout of the Reno Knights on Sunday.

The Pak did itself a favor by putting up seven runs on the board in the first inning, but this inning was only the hors d’oeuvres of the offensive feast Yakima Valley brought to the table.

And there’s nothing like feasting on the road in front of the opponents’ fans. The Pak dug in with four more runs in the second inning, and then dished up 10 more runs in the third.

If the Pak enjoyed a feast, Reno suffered through a fast, scoring just one run in the bottom of the third inning. Pak pitcher
Eathan Hood was solid on the mound for five full innings, giving up just one run on five hits. The Knights made six errors.

Yakima Valley had 19 hits to get its 21 runs. Catcher Matt Snider drove in four runs on 3-5 hitting, and Dustin Daniels also hit 3-5, including one double, and had three RBI.

Josh Eaton’s double and Jake Fife’s triple drove in two runs each, while Chris Demond also earned two RBI with a double and a triple.

John Plughoff went 2-4, with two doubles and one RBI.
