The Yakima Stealers nabbed fourth place in the Valley Invitational Exposure fastpitch tournament over the weekend in Hillsboro, Oregon.

The Stealers got things started Saturday with a narrow 7-6 victory over the Portland Tigers.

Yakima led 5-1 after the first inning, and then the Tigers rallied in the second with three runs to cut the Stealers’ lead to just one run. Portland then tied the game in the third inning.

Yakima added two runs in the fifth, and kept Portland to just one run in the sixth to secure the win. The Stealers had 12 hits in the first game.

Hannah Hester hit a perfect 3-3, and she also scored twice. Catcher Meghan Kopczynski drove in two runs with a double, and scored once. Becca Sharon’s one hit was a solo home run.

Arianne Judy went 2-3 with a double and one RBI, while Lauren Carlson was 1-3 with one RBI. Kristina Doty hit 1-2 with one RBI.

Emily Shepard hit 2-3, and Nina Ratliff went 1-2.

Yakima lost the second game Saturday against the Oregon Thunder, 10-1.

The Stealers scored their one run in the fourth, after being down 2-0. The Thunder then charged ahead with eight runs in the sixth inning.

Yakima had just two hits that game. Kopczynski went 1-3, and her double earned the only run of the game. Doty hit 1-1.
Pitcher Kelsi Ott struck out four batters.

The Stealers changed the momentum to win the third game of the day, this time with an 8-0 shutout of the Vancouver Taters.

Yakima spread out its offense for much of the game, starting with three runs in the first and then tacking on one run in each of the second, third, and fourth innings, before finishing out the fifth with two runs.

Doty pitched the shutout, and kept the Taters to just four hits. She had three strikeouts.

The Stealers racked up 11 hits. Shepard’s one hit was a solo homer, and Hester went 2-4, including a double, and drove in one run.

Sharon went 3-3 and also hit a double and had one RBI. Judy went 2-3 and drove in one run, while Kopcyznski also secured one RBI on 1-3 hitting, including a double.

Carlson earned an RBI with 1-2 hitting, and Monica Stout went 1-2.

On Sunday, the Stealers first fell to the Washington Lady Hawks in a close 10-9 battle. Yakima then defeated the Washington Phoenix 9-3, and then the Washington Avalanche 4-3, but finally fell 5-1 against the Diamond Dusters to take fourth place overall.
