Facing Hanford at home on June 16, the Yakima Valley Pepsi Pak swept the competition 11-1 and 13-3.

The Pak was glowing—and not because of any unlikely radiation Hanford brought to Selah—but rather because of solid offense and defense.

In game one, Hanford scored its only run in the first inning and took a 1-0 lead until the Pak tied it up with one run in the third.

In the fourth inning, Yakima Valley charged ahead with nine runs, and then tacked on one more in the fifth.

Selah’s Jake Fife gave up just the one run on three hits, and he struck out eight. Fife also went 2-3.

Chris Demond hit 2-3 and drove in two runs, while Cody Edwards was 3-4 with one RBI. Eathan Hood was 2-3 with one RBI, and Dustin Daniels drove in two runs.

In the second game, the teams were close early on once more, as each scored one run in the first inning. The Pak scored another run in the second, but Hanford tied the game with a run in the third, and then regained the lead 3-2 in the fourth.

But the Pak came alive in another powerhouse inning—the bottom of the fourth—and poured on ten runs. At that point, the Pak looked like they were ready to replace their bats with brooms to conclude the sweep, but Yakima Valley scored one more run in the sixth to finish the day.

The Pak scored 13 runs on 15 hits. Pitcher Edwards gave up just four hits in the second game.

Cory Urquhart went 3-4, including a double, and drove in three runs. Josh Eaton also had three RBI on 2-4 hitting, including a double and a triple.

Demond drove in two runs with 2-4 hitting, while Daniels went 3-4, including a triple, and had two RBI. Fife hit a double and had two RBI.
