Blue is not an emotion the Yakima Stealers 16U Blue team needs to be feeling at this point.
Instead, the team can be proud of themselves for becoming champions after dominating the field over the weekend in the Three Rivers Rally in Richland.
Yakima defeated Ontario, Oregon 7-3 in the championship round to be “queens of the world” for the week. During that game, Halee Hernandez drove in three runs to help lift Blue to the victory.
The Stealers first downed the Idaho Dry Ice 11-2 on Sunday. Four Stealers had multiple RBI that game: Baylee Bunyard, Courtney Cable, Tori Slobig, and Samantha Harris.
Yakima then bested the Spokane Explosion 4-3. Sierra Weedin was the heroine of that game, as she drove in the winning run to allow the Stealers to contend successfully for the championship.
Blue got things started Saturday when they first took down the Tri-Cities Phillies 9-2. Emily Harpel gave up just five hits and struck out six batters. Harris and Natalie Fickes contributed with perfect hitting; Harris went 2-2 with two RBI, while Fickes hit 3-3.
Blue then edged out the Othello Sun Diamonds 6-5. Fickes’ bat continued to be on fire as she supplied three hits. Bunyard also mustered three hits, and Weedin hit twice and drove in two runs.
