Next week this newspaper will celebrate the first anniversary of publication – launched July 4, 2007 – the Selah Independent is here to stay.
We have nothing but praise for our advertisers, subscribers, contributing writers and staff. It was a tough journey but very enjoyable and the community support is very encouraging.
We’ve missed a few stories and had a few errors but all in all we’ve been able to give you community journalism at its best. There’s been hard news, editorials, letters to the editor, fun features, local sports, human-interest stories and great photos. We will keep improving. As advertising grows so will the number of news pages. Just watch us in our second year.
Keep helping make the paper better by sending us your news tips, letters to the editor, anniversaries, etc.
And let us hear from you about what you would like to see more of––or less of––in the paper. We look forward to your feedback.
We reached a couple of milestones by qualifying to be a legal notice publication, passed the audit for second class mailing and made application to the Washington Newspaper Association for membership.
We are a local mom and pop operation and believe in small business and keeping money at home. We are very grateful to our local staff – Martha, Shawnee, Scott, and Denise and to all who have helped us this last year. THANK YOU FROM MIKE AND PAT LINDSEY.

Speaking of birthdays, here’s a nice story.
On a recent visit to my 95-year-old mother in Colorado Springs we took her out to Ruby’s Diner, she likes the hamburgers there.
At the next table a man was having a birthday lunch for his 96-year-old mother and she was accompanied by her two brothers, one 103 and the other 105.
The amazing thing we learned was that the 103-year-old had just passed his driving test for renewal and had a brand new car in the parking lot. Hurray for him. MDL
