A golf cart shed and 23 golf cars were destroyed in a fire Tuesday night at the Elks Golf and Country Club.
Fifteen firefighters from Selah, and 16 firefighters from the Yakima Training Center, Gleed Fire Department, Yakima Fire Department, and East Valley
Fire Department fought the blaze. Selah Fire Marshal Jim Martin said the Selah Fire Department arrived at the fire at 11:27 p.m. and cleared the area at 3 a.m.
Martin said the area of origin is known.
“We were looking at electrical, but I can’t confirm that,” he said. “But it does not appear to be suspicious.”
Martin estimated that the 1,872 square foot building would cost more than $100,000 to rebuild. He estimated that the golf carts, worth at least $5,000 each, were worth more than $115,000. An unknown number of golf clubs and bags were also stored in the shed.
The Elks had the shed insured, but the contents were not insured. Individual owners will have to determine whether their homeowner’s insurance will cover their losses, Martin said.
