Wilfred and Marguerite McDowell Farley celebrated their 70th anniversary on Nov. 9.
Wilfred was raised in Selah and Marguerite was raised in Fortiscue, Mo. They were married on Nov. 9, 1938 in Yakima and have lived all their married life in Selah. They started farming in 1943 raising apples, pears and cherries and still raise cherries today.
They started their marriage making wooden fruit boxes for a living. Later, they worked at Playland, a local dance hall. Marguerite worked as a cook in the Selah school district for many years, and is still for her famous bread rolls! Wilfred worked several places before retiring from Weyerhaeuser after 23 years of service.
They have three children, Mary and Bob Farley and Dan Kirk. They also raised many foster children. Most of their lives have been spent working with children in 4-H or taking children, grandchildren and great-grand children fishing and hunting.
They built their first summer home on Rimrock Lake in 1947. Being in the mountains was one of their greatest joys. They also enjoyed traveling. They have traveled most of the United States including Alaska and also much of Canada. They also visited China on one of the first tourist trips allowed into that country, as well as Australia and Africa.
