When Tina Marie Lasha saw someone painting the windows of a Yakima business almost 30 years ago, she commented to her husband how that looked like something she could do. Soon after, she got her own paints, brushes and half a dozen customers. Business took off from there.

Selah Rock Bin: a rock hound’s gem


When Robbin Gregory moved from Oregon back home to the Yakima Valley, she brought her business with her. For eight years, Gregory ran a shop in Bandon, Ore. that catered to rock collectors like herself.


Selah dancers preparing to compete in a national competition will have big shoes to fill: their own. The Eastern Washington Elite Dance Team brought home five national titles last year. Returning team members are hoping to win again this year.

Selah author pens two more books


Nearly six decades after a grade school teacher suggested keeping a journal, Betty Maier still finds writing to be therapeutic. Maier, a Selah resident, recently self-published her second and third books and has other titles in the works.

With more than 50 Selah families choosing home schooling for their children, the Selah School District has started a new parent partnership program called Selah HomeLink. The program is designed to support families who are looking for resources to supplement their home based instruction.


The opening of Selah’s newest Mexican restaurant was a dream come true for owners Ernesto and Nubia Delgado. The couple opened Taqueria La Plazita at First Street and Fremont Avenue in July.

SIS student tours Washington D.C.

Selah fifth-grade student Lane Berry has returned from an action packed trip to Washington D.C. During the 10-year-old’s six-day stay in the nation’s capital, he checked off all of a tourist’s must-see attractions and then some.

In October 2005, Tempest Sanborn received a diagnosis no one wants to hear: cancer. Now four years later, the 48-year-old Selah resident is telling her story to as many people as she can in hopes of raising awareness of her rare form of cancer.

SHS student starts selling metalwork


In light of the current job market, Selah High School student Levi Brewer is taking matters into his own hands and "taking baby steps" to start his own business.
