Selah has a state champion, and Brett Blanshan is his name.
Blanshan is any track coach’s dream athlete and a powerhouse in the sport.

Vikings excel at state track and field

The Selah Vikings boys track and field team placed sixth at the state championships May 23-24 at Mt. Tahoma High School in Tacoma.

2A basketball returns

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association will move the Class 2A state basketball tournament to Yakima next year. Selah is a 2A school.
The Yakima SunDome will host three weeks of championship basketball with 1B, 1A and 2A high schools.
The 2A tournament had been at the SunDome from 1999 to 2006, but was then moved to Tacoma.
In 2009, Yakima will host the 1B tournament Feb. 25-28; 1A March 4-7; and 2A March 11-14.

Senior meal volunteers honored at luncheon

More than 100 senior meal volunteers were honored April 9, at a luncheon at the Wapato Community Center for their service to senior citizens across Yakima County.

Selah’s Jack McEntire, a.k.a. “Chainsaw Jack,” visited Satus Elementary School in Wapato a few weeks back and held some 40 small kids spellbound.
