    Pioneers get new grave markers


    The Selah Kiwanis Club and volunteers worked Saturday to install new headstones for Selah’s pioneers in the Old Pioneer Cemetery on Harrison Road.

    Selah’s scholars honored

    A program sponsored by the University of Washington conducts an annual statewide search for the brightest young students. This year, it found eight at Selah Intermediate School.

    4-H gaming show qualifies riders

The gaming show is the only one in Yakima County, said 4-H leader, Brandy Wilde, of Selah. Adults participate in the gaming and performance shows. Kindergartners through fifth graders can participate in dog and cat 4-H. Third through ninth graders can participate in 4-H with horses.


    The Capitol Theatre was abuzz with energy and anticipation Friday night as performers and audience members awaited the start of the FootLites “A Salute to Broadway” presentation.  Seats filled up quickly and by the time the show started standing room was all that was left.

    Covenant Church to open grade-school

    The Selah Covenant Church will open a Christian school this fall for grades one to four.

    A Selah fifth grader, Vinny Napolitano, was honored June 3 for his depiction of a wildlife crossing, a part of the Washington State Department of Transportation I-90 project.

    Vacant council seat to be filled June 10

    The city council will consider seven applications for the council seat vacated by Brian Harris at the June 10 council meeting. City Supervisor Frank Sweet said the application period closed May 27.

    Applicants include: John Gawlik, retired, with a background in law enforcement; Kevin Jorgensen, director of manufacturing and operations, Michelson Packaging Co.; Troy Laurvick, commercial real estate appraiser; Carl North, retired public school teacher; William (Bill) Powell, retired military, retired school employee; Allen J. Schmid, retired, Pacific Power; William L. Teaford, self-employed.

    The council will ask a series of questions to each applicant, while the other applicants wait outside. The council will then go into executive session and discuss each applicant’s qualifications. The council will make a final decision in the public meeting, and the new council member will be sworn in at that time.

    Ross addresses Chamber; praises Selah


    Representative Charles Ross (R)-Naches, told the Selah Chamber of Commerce last Tuesday that Selah should be praised for its beautiful, clean streets and for not always beating on the Legislature’s door asking for money.


    Anything a boy can do, a girl can do better. That’s what Selah Police Officer Pauli Martin and Selah volunteer firefighter, Megan Messer, were taught.
