The Open Heart Baptist Church will celebrate Father’s Day by honoring fathers with a token of appreciation and good food and beverages at a 10:30 a.m. fellowship service and a church service to follow at 11 a.m.

Spend your summer the creative way with Allied Arts Summer ArtsVan and ArtsVan Family Nights.
The Allied Arts Summer ArtsVan Project is a free, drop-in program, which provides Yakima Valley children an opportunity to explore the possibilities of the arts and discover their creative side.

Weekdays, June 23 through August 1 enjoy free projects based on the theme “The Art Forecast: Weather & Climate, Creatively.” Open to kids ages five to twelve.
Monday: 10 a.m. – noon, Miller Park; 1 - 3 p.m., Franklin Park
Tuesday: 10 a.m. –noon, Randall Park; 1- 3 p.m., Southeast Community Center
Wednesday: 10 a.m-noon, Kissel Park; 1- 3 p.m., West Valley Park

Get environmentally creative with recycled art projects on Thursday nights with Allied Arts’ traveling art classroom, ArtsVan. FREE! Thursday Nights, July 10 through August 14, during Franklin Park’s (Tieton Dr. & 20th Ave) Summer Sunset Concerts, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Open to kids ages two to twelve and their grown-ups. Make a new project each week!
ArtsVan and its talented staff of artists have been providing a focused arts program for children since 1985.
Children will discover uses for materials found at home so that they may repeat and expand on the lessons learned and add their own style. Summer ArtsVan is sponsored by Yakima Southwest Rotary and Yakima Parks & Recreation.

Kiwanis to buddy bag items

The Selah Kiwanis Club is assisting CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) by collecting items for “Buddy Bags.” These bags are needed for children in foster care who are often moved abruptly with very few belongings. The small duffel bag filled with personal items is both necessary and comforting.
The Selah Club is concentrating on children five years old and under.

Saturday, May 17 at 9:00 a.m. North First Street will get a face lift. “First Street First,” is an initiative designed to help North First Street become an inviting, and safe, gateway to Yakima. Volunteers will meet in the Clarion Hotel parking lot, 1507 N.
First Street to tackle 10 identified trouble spots. At the end of the three-hour work party, volunteers will be invited to a barbeque lunch, complete with music.

Amity Club to raise scholarship funds

The Amity Club will sell homemade fruit pies, cookies, and coffee at the Selah Community Days celebration to raise funds for a scholarship for a Selah High School senior.
The club met at the home of Hilda Ward on April 8 for their monthly meeting. Richard Pingrey presented a program about his experiences in the Middle East.

The City of Selah is doing some spring cleaning.
April 21 through April 25 the City of Selah Public Works crew, Basin Disposal, and Yakima Waste will pick up residential yard waste FREE OF CHARGE!
*Residential yard waste only
*Debris needs to be boxed, bundled or bagged in 50-pound units or less and limited to four feet in length
*NO larger items will be picked up
*NO tires, metals, or demolition debris will be picked up
*NO hazardous wastes (motor oil, batteries, paint, anti-freeze, etc)
Leave items to be picked up at your regular garbage pick up site between April 21 and 25.
