    Monday, June 22, has been selected as the date the Selah School District will interview candidates for the Interim Superintendent position. Interviews are set to begin at 3:30 p.m. and finish up by 9:30 p.m. at the Selah Intermediate School cafeteria located at 1401 W. Fremont Ave.

    Mileage Club finishes strong


    Can you imagine 1,000 kids running more than 13,000 miles in one school year? Well, between Robert Lince and John Campbell Elementary Schools that’s exactly what happened.

    Toward the end of April an article was written on the writing committee at John Campbell Elementary School and their efforts to improve student writing and boost parent involvement.
    At the time we published portions of the stories as they were being written, now all the pieces are finished and in final draft form.
    Here’s some writing from that project:

    Mother’s Day letters continued

    The Selah Independent hosted a Mother’s Day contest for kids from John Campbell and Robert Lince Elementary Schools this past week. The contest involved the students writing a letter describing how special their Mother is to them. The big winner from John Campbell was Jordyn from Mrs. Balm’s class and from Lince the big winner was Emily. These are some more of the letters from the finalists:

    Special Olympics comes to Selah


    Young athletes from Robert Lince and John Campbell Elementary Schools participated in the Special Olympics Young Athletes Field Day April 21-22 in an effort by the schools to expose students up to the age of seven to the Special Olympics while engaging all of them in physical activities.

    Boys vie for Mr. SHS title


    Sixteen Selah High School boys got up in front of a large crowd Wednesday, March 25, to take their shot at the Mr. SHS crown.

    For the past 10 years the Mid-Valley Math Competition has been an event that has brought more than a hundred students together to battle it out with their math skills.

    HERE TO STAY

    Tuesday, May 5, was an exciting day for the hundreds of community members that wanted Selah High School Principal Joe Jones to stick around. Why? That morning Superintendent Dr. Debra Howard asked him to continue his role as principal next year.

    Writing outside of the classroom

    Five years ago a writing committee was created at John Campbell Elementary School to look at different ways to improve overall writing performance at the school. Two weeks ago the committee implemented its newest effort to increase parent involvement in the writing area school-wide.
